SEAN'S STORY
From the moment Sean entered our lives, he brought light and energy and love. He was sweet and funny and easily bored. He was defined throughout his life by those things that he was passionate about. And he embraced these things with every fiber of his being. His first love was dinosaurs, then birds and animals. He knew everything about every animal and visited over 30 zoos in his short life. As he grew older, sports became his passion. He shared his free time engaged in nearly every sport from football, to basketball, soccer and baseball. There weren’t many baseball statistics that Sean didn’t know. He shared this passion with his father with whom he visited nearly every Major League stadium. They even went to a World Series game in Cleveland.
These baseball trips were so important to Sean and the trips with his dad were some of his favorite moments in this world. What came next were his friendships. To his many friends he was loyal, loving and just about the funniest guy on the planet. Twice voted the Class Clown in school, he was a source of joy and humor. At times, irreverent and inappropriate, but always would do anything for a laugh. He would diffuse tensions and sadness in nearly everyone he met. He was always there with a smile and laugh but more importantly, he was there when you needed him. He was there when a friend was injured and needed help and was there when a friend was depressed and needed to not be alone.
He was passionate about music too. He could sit for hours and tell you all about the stories of every song he listened to. Some of his last moments on the earth were spent attending concerts with the people who meant the most to him and the performers he loved best. Sean attended a Kendrick Lamar concert with his brother while on a family vacation and then attended Made In America with many of his friends in the days before he left this world. He felt things much deeper than many realized and music helped him deal with life.
We will never really know why Sean felt that he could no long live in this world. A series of concussions and possible depression may be the cause, but he never asked for help. IF he had just let one person know, he may still be here and able to make us laugh and give us a smile like he always did.
The Sean Flynn Foundation focuses on bringing awareness to the link between mental health struggles and TBI/Concussions but also scholarship opportunities and the chance of continuing Sean's legacy with light, love and most importantly laughter.
